Pointera User Manual

Pointera helps you chat with AI directly on the page you are currently reading. This guide explains the full flow from installing the extension to using the web dashboard.

1. What You Need Before Starting

  • A Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome recommended).
  • A Pointera account.
  • Stable internet connection.

2. Install the Extension

  1. Open the Pointera landing page.
  2. Click Add to Chrome.
  3. Approve the browser permission dialog.
  4. Pin the Pointera extension from the browser toolbar for faster access.

3. Create Account on the Web

  1. Open the Pointera website.
  2. Click Get Started or Create your free account.
  3. Complete registration.
  4. Verify your account if requested.

4. Connect Extension to Your Account

  1. Log in to the web app.
  2. Open Settings from your dashboard.
  3. Copy your access token.
  4. Open the Pointera extension popup in browser.
  5. Paste the token and save.
  6. If needed, refresh the active tab once.

5. Start Using Pointera on Any Website

  1. Open a page you want to read or analyze.
  2. Open the Pointera bubble/panel.
  3. Type a question in the input field, for example:
    • "Summarize this page in 5 bullet points"
    • "Explain this section in simpler language"
    • "Translate this article to Indonesian"
  4. Send your prompt and wait for response.

6. Useful Prompt Patterns

  • Summary: "Give me an executive summary of this page."
  • Action points: "List the top 5 takeaways and what to do next."
  • Learning mode: "Teach this topic like I am a beginner."
  • Comparison: "Compare the main arguments in a pros/cons table."
  • Extraction: "Extract all important dates, names, and numbers."

7. Keyboard Shortcuts

Use these shortcuts to work faster:

  • Alt + B: Toggle or freeze the Pointera bubble on the current page.
  • Ctrl + B: Expand or collapse the chatbox.
  • Alt + C: Toggle between follow mode and release mode.
  • Enter: Send prompt from the input box.
  • Shift + Enter: Add a new line without sending.
  • Ctrl + V / Cmd + V: Paste copied text into Pointera input.

Notes:

  • Shortcut behavior can vary depending on website focus state.
  • If a shortcut does not respond, click the page once and try again.

8. Use the Web Dashboard

You can also manage your Pointera usage from the web app:

  • View profile and account settings.
  • Update personalization and appearance.
  • Access chat and history (if enabled in your account).
  • Contact support through the dashboard contact page.

9. Troubleshooting

Extension not responding

  • Refresh the tab.
  • Turn extension off/on from browser extensions page.
  • Re-check whether your token is still valid.

Cannot send prompt

  • Check internet connection.
  • Ensure you are logged in.
  • Try opening a different site to confirm the issue is page-specific.

Token rejected

  • Copy token again from web settings.
  • Remove extra spaces when pasting.
  • Regenerate token from settings if needed.

10. Privacy & Safety Notes

  • Do not paste passwords, banking data, or confidential legal documents into prompts.
  • Always validate AI answers before using them for critical decisions.

11. Quick Workflow Recap
